Hi, I'm Ben. I'm the Urban Photographer.
I've spent a great deal of time here in Reykjavik wandering around the downtown area taking photos. I find it interesting to try and capture the small moments of interaction, reaction, and emotion that people exhibit when out and about. Whether it be tourists or locals, there's almost always something interesting to find. If you ever see me on the street, I will be more than happy to take your photo.
Reykjavik also has a multitude of public events each year that provide wonderful opportunities to capture amazing photos. These vary greatly in size, reaching its zenith with events like National Day and Reykjavik Pride where just about the entire city turns out. Summer is generally better than winter for photos around town, but each has their own unique aspects.
If you're looking for photos of the majestically rugged terrain of Iceland, you're not likely to find them here. While I do take photos of landscapes on occasion, it's not my main calling. You will find plenty of photos in varying levels of contrast and saturation all across the internet of the many mountains and the Northern Lights.
Originally born in a small town to the west of Sydney, Australia, I grew up in the subtropics of Brisbane. I moved to Iceland 2013 when I got a job offer I couldn't refuse, and I've called Reykjavik home ever since.
While I always had a passing interest in photography, I didn't actually start taking pictures seriously until around the end of 2014 when I got my first DSLR camera. From there, I've spent many weekends searching around for photos and amassing piles of images still needing reviewing. Don't ask me how many are sitting around waiting for me to check them still, it's an easy way to make me cry.
Photography is not my full time vocation. My actual employment is in Marketing for a company that makes video games here in Iceland. While several people have brought up the idea of photography for a living, I feel that photographing for enjoyment has a different and more enjoyable mindset compared to photographing for employment, at least while it would be responsible for food on my table.
